Northern Professionals have endorsed the decision of the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, to re-award the revoked section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway to a new company.

According to the group, the decision to re-award the road contract for this critical route linking northern states, with a commitment to deliver on schedule, is commendable.

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, had earlier revoked a section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway contract from a company due to a price dispute and delays in meeting the completion timeline.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Dr. Isa Samaila Getso, and Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Mohammad Geidam, the group expressed satisfaction with the re-award of the contract, noting that initial fears of delay and abandonment have been allayed.

“We were really disturbed after the contract was terminated. But today, as a mark of appreciation, we want to unequivocally thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking proactive action to resume work on the Abuja-Kaduna road,” the statement read.

“The truth is, we were highly bitter and unsettled when the news broke that the contract handled by a renowned contractor was revoked. With the recent decision, we are happy that the road, which had become a death trap, will now be completed.”

The group further stated that the revocation of the road contract serves as a clear signal to contractors that the Federal Government will no longer tolerate unnecessary delays in project completion under the guise of cost variations or rising material prices.
