In what was a memorable event for technical education in Nigeria, the Federal Science and Technical College in 2007
Alumni presented “Top Performer Awards” to Year 2 and Year 3 students of the college’s Electrical Section.

The event, themed “STEM Award 2024,” pioneered by the 2007 Alumni Chairman, Musa Adewoyin, aimed at recognising the hard work and dedication of the students to foster innovation and encourage the bright minds that hold the key to turning around the fortune of our dear nation, Nigeria.

The chairman stated that “this recognition is a clear demonstration of our commitment to motivating the best talents in this college while encouraging them to stay resilient and focused in preparation for life and career post-FSTCY.” Having conducted an impact assessment with the school leadership, the Alumni Board of Trustees (BOT) and delegates comprising Engr. Kingsley Eze, Engr. Benjamin Idogho, Mr. Johnny Inyany, Mr. Lanre Adenekan, and Mr.
Peter Orowale concluded that for immediate and long-term impact, the award winners be presented with 32-piece engineering tool sets and digital measurement devices.

When the event was held on 25th October 2024, the college leadership expressed great delight in this initiative and underscored the importance of such support for the college, as this sets the tone for an improved student mindset and serves as a positive catalyst for the overall learning experience.

In a remark by the BOT Head of Media & Publicity, Kingsley, he reiterated the importance of encouraging tomorrow’s leaders by recognizing and motivating them as we move towards cleaner energy drives and technological advancements.

The Alumni leadership also restated their commitment to extend this initiative to other crafts, sections, and departments within the college in the coming months, adding that a special committee is being set up to ensure a future-proof endeavour.

The chairman, BOT members, administrators, and the entire 2007 set Alumni expressed profound gratitude to the college leadership for their support and guidance in seeing this initiative to fruition by providing open lines of communication and offering a hospitable atmosphere.

Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, with the motto:

Only the Best is Good Enough, plays a critical role in developing the next generation of leaders, scientists, and engineers; with the primary mission of remaining confident in their ability while utilizing best-in-class skill sets to provide a better life for humanity and the planet.

This was principally the seed that led to this mindset-centred initiative, which focused on the most important asset of the college – the students.
