As part of efforts to address challenges facing Nigeria’s farmers including limited access to funding, technology, and markets and achieve food security, the Federal Government has launched the Young Farmers Network and Cooperative Society.
The summit, organized by the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Youth Leader, Dr. Dayo Israel, and declared open by the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, was spearheaded by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Abdullahi Sabi Aliyu, and attended by Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art and Culture; Prince Shuaibu Audu, Minister for Steel Development and Hon. The three days event, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, and attended by over 6,000 young Nigerians from across the country, was aimed at fostering youth inclusion in governance, agriculture, technology, and economic growth, marked a significant step toward empowering the country’s future.
According to Israel, the Young Farmers Network and Cooperative Society was designed to empower and support young farmers in the country, providing them with the resources and expertise needed to increase agricultural productivity and contribute to the nation’s food supply.
He said: “This summit underscored the importance of youth engagement in shaping the nation’s future. The summit not only created a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas but also generated concrete solutions to some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges. The inauguration of the Progressive Young Farmers Network stands out as one of many initiatives that will empower Nigerian youth in the months and years to come.
“As a farmer’s son myself, it gives me immense pride to have conceived this initiative, which will nurture the next generation of agribusiness professionals and I also extend our deepest gratitude to all our partners, participants, and stakeholders for their invaluable contributions.
