The recent Jobberman Career Clinic in Enugu, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, has left a lasting impact on its 1200 participants, with many sharing testimonials about their experiences. This event, part of Jobberman’s ongoing efforts to address youth unemployment in Nigeria, provided a platform for professionals to offer practical solutions and counselling to young job seekers.

One attendee, a Radiography graduate considering a career switch to tech, expressed her gratitude: “This event has made me so happy because the career counsellors assured me that the switch is possible and I’m not crazy to desire it. They also gave me tips on next steps and how to start positioning myself for opportunities in tech.”

The event’s commitment to inclusivity was particularly appreciated by a participant with a disability.

She shared, “I am very grateful to Jobberman for their disability sensitivity. I came here particularly for the CV review and accessed the one-on-one counselling session. The professional that spoke with me told me how I can combine my medical expertise with being an advocate for People with Disabilities.”

These stories reflect the event’s success in addressing diverse career needs and challenges. Participants praised the practical solutions offered by professionals from various sectors, the personalized career counselling, and the invaluable CV review sessions. The clinic also featured LinkedIn optimization tips, providing attendees with tools to enhance their professional online presence.

The “Career Compass” framework, introduced during the keynote address by former female governorship candidate Mrs. Nnenna Anozie, resonated with many attendees. It emphasized self-assessment, goal-setting, continuous learning, mentorship, volunteering, and practical experience – elements that participants found immediately applicable to their career journeys.

Jobberman CEO Oreoluwa Boboye noted the palpable enthusiasm among attendees, stating, “The energy and eagerness to learn that we’ve witnessed today reaffirms our commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youth with the tools they need for successful careers.”

Boboye encouraged participants to take full advantage of the available resources and support, emphasising the importance of adding direction to their skillsets.

Ahmed Alaga, Head of Partnerships at Jobberman Nigeria, highlighted the significance of the partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. He explained that events like the Career Clinic aim to equip young talent with the skills and competencies required for career success, aligning with the Young Nigeria Works strategy.

The Enugu State Government has expressed its intention to partner with Jobberman in deploying soft skills to empower the unemployed youth in the state, recognising the value of such initiatives in addressing the unemployment challenge.

As participants left the event, many expressed a newfound sense of direction and optimism about their career prospects, testament to the transformative power of targeted career support. The Enugu Career Clinic, being the fifth in a series following successful events in Ibadan, Lagos, and Kaduna, underscores Jobberman’s commitment to reaching job seekers across Nigeria.

With over 4,200 attendees at jobseeker-centered events in the last two years, Jobberman continues to address the urgent need for career support among Nigerian youth.
