ABUJA- Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in a suburb called Jikwoyi Phase IV in Abuja Municipal Area, AMAC, yesterday, vented anger, pain, and frustration over alleged failure of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, to replace a faulty transformer in the community after two weeks of blackout.

They expressed their displeasure in a letter addressed to the Managing Director, AEDC, Zone 4, and signed by the Chairman, Landlords Association, Mr. Kareem Bolakale Akeem.

The community accused AEDC of intentional negligence and poor maintenance of the transformer, which they also alleged the company generates huge revenue from its loyal customers in the community.

According to them, AEDC had ignored repeated warnings and complaints about the transformer’s condition, which had deteriorated due to oil leakage, overloading, and burning of uprisers.

Consequently, in the letter, the community members demanded immediate replacement of the failed transformer, old uprisers, aluminum conductors, and wooden poles in the community.

Meanwhile, the residents gave one week ultimatum for their demands to be met if not they will mobilize and occupy the AEDC office, while they expressed deep disappointment, they said they are at wits end pointing out the sheer failure of AEDC, which they are resolute for the company to do the needful.

Meanwhile, the community copied relevant government agencies including the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Nigerian Police Divisions, and local leaders, seeking urgent intervention to ensure power restoration as soon as possible in the community.

However, AEDC is yet to respond to the community’s demands that have made tempers to run high as they also expressed fears over a prolonged power outage and escalating tensions in coming days.
