Peoples Democratic party (PDP) Chieftain and former Delta State Gubernatorial aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has reiterated that  government bureaucratic  policies  process is retrogressive and  has resulted in setback in achieving successes.

Onuesoke explained that in as much as bureaucratic processes are  suppose to help keep everyone on track, he, however pointed out that they are  often too cumbersome by putting  emphasis on procedure and policy rather than efficiency.

He added that  the  systems and processes that are put in place effectively make decision-making slow.

Onuesoke who made the statement in Asaba, Delta State while reacting to Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s criticism of   the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for requiring married women to travel to Abuja for a simple change of name on their passports commended the Minister for noticing such an absorb bureaucratic process.

He wondered what would warrant a married woman who resides in Asaba, Delta State for instance to travel all the way to Abuja to amend change of name in her international passport when it can easily be ratified  in Nigeria Immigration Office, Asaba, Delta State or  online.

According to the PDP Chieftain, “One could imagine the stress, time and financial burden it would take such woman to travel from Asaba to Abuja just to amend name in passport that can be done in Asaba or online in the comfort of her home.  These bureaucratic bottle neck are not only experience in Nigeria Immigration service, it is experience all over Nigeria Ministries and even in some corporate organizations.  The consequences of delayed caused by such bureaucratic bottle neck  are  socio-economically enormous to the nation and the citizens.

“It is responsible for duplication of processes, encourages corruption in the polity and slow down process of development. For instance one need to process biometric to obtain a drivers license, NIN, voters card and BVN among others, where as biometric in NIN alone is enough to cover all the above mentioned processes. We should reduce this our bureaucrat process of delay of  making things happen.”

He urged other Ministers, heads of  government agencies and corporate organization to emulate  the proposed  policy  of  Interior  Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo of processing International Passport on line so as to save Nigerians from inconvenience bureaucratic bottle neck.

“Activities globally has gone online. We can process most of our business transaction, registration, processing of documents and other official transaction on line without carrying papers from one offices to the other.

“By so doing,  corruption will be reduced through personal contact from the polity, there will be  urgent facilitation of business transaction and we will achieve our goals with utmost urgency,” he stated..
