A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State, hon. Eseme Eyiboh
has expressed the confidence that his party would nominate a Southerner as presidential candidate of the party at the national convention.
Eyiboh, the APC flagbearer for the Eket Federal consituency seat who spoke yesterday during an interview yesterday in Uyo, explained that the regional conspiracy that played out during the convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) cannot happen in the APC.
He stressed that the failure of the PDP to zome its presidential ticket to the southern region after president Buhari’s 8years in office, means that leaders of the party did not put into consideration the equity and fairness they have been preaching.
He, therefore, commended the APC stakeholders and leaders especially the president and the governors for promoting in equity and stability by agreeing that the party’s presidential ticket should go to the South.
His words: “At the APC convention today one thing is certain, everybody has said that the presidential ticket should go to the southern part of the country.
“What played out at the PDP convention was a regional conspiracy against another region. It cannot play out in the APC convention. That is because President Buhari after 8years in office cannot hand over to another northerner.
“May God bless the northern and Southern governors of the APC, the president and the Oyegun led committee because they have all come to say let it go to the South in the interest of peace, equity and stability.
“But PDP as we speak, the presidential candidate is from the North, the National Chairman from the North, Chairman Board of Trustees of the party is North, so where is the equity and unity that they have been preaching? They are nowhere to be found.
“Political parties are expected to be vehicles to drive national consciousness. So the PDP is a regional behemoth, it is not a political party”
On the anxiety the APC presidential primary has generated in the country, Eyiboh responded, that the fact that every Nigerians are very anxious to see the outcome was an indication that the country’s democracy was yielding fruit.
” Before now most people don’t get interested to know what is going on. The political enlightenment and education is very high now and for the electorate to be anxious of who is going to govern them is a plus for our democracy, I like the anxiety”
