The co-founder and Director, Brighthat Limited, Adewale Adeyemo has called for the need to scale-up capacity in  technology to meet the educational needs of learners around the world.

He said that will enable students to learn, teach and earn additional income.

Adeyemo said this during a job fair for undergraduate students organised by Brighthat Limited in conjunction with the University of Ibadan and the Technology and Engineering Students Association, at the Faculty of Technology Lecture Theatre, weekend.

At the job fair, the students were taught the essence of up scaling their talents, skills and passion. They were also taken through the selection process of the organisation.

“The youths need a lot of development in terms of helping them to harness their talents and develop their potential and we are not short of very good talent in this part of the world. This is an opportunity for youths rather than being idle, they can use their spare time, first, to make a difference in their society by teaching and helping people to fulfill their learning needs.

“They can also earn extra income and develop some skills that will help their future career. This is one of the things that Brighthat is bring to the university system as a way also to channel a solution to the problem of capacity in the education system,” Adeyemo said.

Adeyemo said this can be done by engaging youths who have the brains and are passionate about using their knowledge to impact society.

“We have identified that there is a problem of capacity in the education industry. Rather than just depending on the existing capacity, we identified that bright students in the university also have the ability, if trained, to be able to render tutoring especially in the K12 education system in Nigeria.

In his presentation, the co-founder of the organisation, Mobolaji Moyosore, said they are focused on providing learners and tutors with a platform to actualise their learning and earning needs with convenience using technology.

“Brighthat is made up of seasoned educators and technologists , who are passionate about using technology tools to improve learning outcomes for students and other types of learners”, Moyosore said.

On his part, the Dean, Faculty of Technology, Professor Olasebikan Fakolujo,  said the fair will equip the students with hands-on skills and requisite knowledge needed for their future workplace.

He said events like this bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and what obtains in the workplace.

“In UI, we have a programme known as Students Work Programme, whereby students study and do some work and earn a certain income and by the time they graduate they don’t have to rely on government job or start looking for job, as they are already equipped to be employers of labour ,”Prof  Fakolujo said.

For Korede Omotolola and Abiodun Adesope, 200 level students of Mechanical Engineering and Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, respectively, the fair offered them the opportunity to deploy their talents and knowledge in imparting the society while making some income by the side.

“I don’t think there is anyone that cannot teach. Innovations like this helps build your capacity, to help you become a better person, to be able to impart the same knowledge that you have been taught. There is no point in learning if we cannot teach the same thing. This is a very ground to be a blessing as it were to society,” said Omotolola.

Adesope believes that though Nigeria is not ad technologically advanced for learning like other countries, the initiative of the organisation is a stepping stone for future advancements in the education system.
