IN search of peace in the troubled apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, some Igbo groups, have visited the secretary general of the body, Mr Uche Okwukwu, and held discussions aimed at ensuring peace, unity and development of Ndigbo.
The groups, Igbo Unity Union, Nsukka Diaspora Forum the United Kingdom Igbo bu Igbo Association, France chapter; Congress of Ebonyi State Women and Igbo National Youths, said they support the cause of progress being pursued by Okwukwu though Ohanaeze Ndigbo and urged him to ensure that Ndigbo is not missed out in the scheme of things in the country.
The groups said that it was good that all Igbos did not support the main opposition party, PDP as planned by the President General and his supporters. According to them, it would not amount to political wisdom if the entire Igbo people had supported and voted for PDP to the detriment of the ruling APC, saying it was good for a balanced political position for the Igbo Nation.
According to the group, having a balanced political position would make the Igbo Nation not to lose entirely irrespective of any party that is in power. They noted that it was good that during the last elections, Igbos supported and voted for the two major parties instead of putting their eggs in one basket and perhaps lose everything.
The group, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reciprocate the support given to him and his party by Ndigbo by appointing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation from the South East zone.
Led by their leaders, Mr Odum Nwachukwu for Igbo unity Union, Dr Ugwuoke Edwin for Nsukka Diaspora forum, Engr. Maduka Igwe for Igbo bu Igbo France chapter, Mrs Ndioma Chioma for Congress of Ebonyi State Women and Mr Ani Robert of Igbo National Youths commended Okwukwu for his effort to maintain peace in Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
They called for accountability from all leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and warned that anybody that misappropriates funds meant for the body must be prosecuted as they accused some leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo of harbouring selfish agenda which they said almost ruined Ndigbo in the last election.
The group also condemned any attempt by anybody or group who are planning to work against the administration of Buhari, saying that all hands should be on deck to move Nigeria forward.
In his remarks, Okwukwu thanked the groups for their patriotism and confidence in him and assured them that he would not relent in protecting Igbo interests at all times.
