AS more reactions continue to trail the postponement of presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria, the Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Mr aiwo Akerele said the action of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, though regrettable and inconvenient, it would enhance the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City yesterday, Akerele also urged Nigerian political class and INEC to come out with necessary regulation to enable Nigerians in Diaspora vote in future elections just as he said a vote for President Muhammadu Buhari is a vote for the continuity of the economic revolution of Obaseki in Edo State who he said is doingt what he is doing because of the support he is getting from Buhari.
His words; “Our people were fully mobilized; the agents, the canvassers, security people, everybody was mobilized to the various locations only for us to hear that INEC said they were not ready. It shows that we really need to restructure the electoral system of this country.
“However, I can assure you that the postponement has even given more energy to APC members across Nigeria, they are ever ready now more than before to vote in their candidates because they think that the opposition is trying to cash in on the lack of readiness of INEC to blame the APC as if we are responsible for the postponement. We are all victims; we are all casualties of the postponement.
Immediately the elections were rescheduled, the APC met in Edo State and they said whenever INEC rescheduled the election, they are ready to vote in their candidates and nobody will be able to convince them otherwise.
“I want my people in Akoko-Edo local government area and infact Edo people in general to look at the performance of Mr Governor, that whatever Mr Governor has done in the last two years, it is as a result of the support he has been getting from President Muhammadu Buhari, they should know that they are not only casting their votes for Buhari, they are also voting for continuity of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s economic revolution in Nigeria.
