Bye election: APC, Katsina Speaker wins Rep. seat

KATSINA – The ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC flag bearer and Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Abubakar Yahaya Kusada has been declared winner of the Saturday’s bye election into the seat of Kankia/Kusada/Ingawa Federal constituency.


Abubakar emerged winner after polling 48,518 votes against Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s, who scored 20,193 votes.

The Returning Officer, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Rasheed Adedayo Hamzat declared Abubakar winner while announcing the election results at the Kankia collation centre.

According to him, “Abubakar Yahaya of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored highest number of votes, 48,518 is hereby declared winner of the bye election.

“The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abdulssamad Yusuf Abdullahi came second with 20,193 votes while Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Nasiru Lawal Aminu and Youths Electorate Solidarity, YES, Abdullahi Umar pulled 1,810 and 221 votes respectively,” Hamzat said.

He said out of 193,904 Registered Voters, 74,742 were accredited and total vote cast was 73,073 (Valid Votes : 70,742 and Rejected Votes : 2,331).

Earlier, the Senator representing Katsina North senatorial district, Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita commended the large turnout of electorates and their peaceful conduct during the electioneering exercise.

Similarly, the Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank, Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa after visiting some polling units adjudged the election process as free, fair and credible.
