ABA—GOODS worth over N5 million have been razed in an early inferno at a section of Eke-Oha Market in Aba, Abia State.
The inferno which started at about 3am at the zone 1 and zone 6 areas of the market razed a mini warehouse loaded with newly imported lace and lycra fabrics.
Though the cause of the fire remains a mystery to traders, it was gathered that the fire would have razed more shops but for the timely intervention of the men of the Abia State Fire Service who were alerted to the incident.
When Vanguard visited the scene, market executives who said they got distress calls about the incident were seen in their night wears discussing the situation.
A trader at the market, Mr. Obinna Okolo, said, “it is strange to me. The other shop was filled with goods on Monday while the other one was offloaded yesterday. It cannot be electricity because parts of the markets that have light are usually switched off every 5pm before we go home. I just pray God will comfort those two people because the damage was much.”
