BENIN—A socio-cultural group in Edo State, Benin National Congress, BNC, yesterday, condemned the recent attack by some youths on Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State when he visited Irrua in Edo Central senatorial district of the state for a meeting with select party leaders.
A statement by Director of Publicity of BNC, David Ekomwenrenren, said whatever grievances the youths had with the governor was not enough to warrant attack the convoy of the governor, even as he called on the governor to adjust his governance style so that he would not alienate the people.
He said “Whereas Governor Obaseki’s economic and political policies are yet to have any meaningful impact on Edo people, whereas the governor has alienated the organic political leaders that projected his ambition from their due political patronage and whereas the governor has been promoting the business interest of Lagosians through capital flight instead of raising Edo business economy, we nonetheless condemn the assault on his convoy in Esan land by aggrieved youths and call for total restraints from such barbaric political behaviour by Esan youths and Edo youths in general.
“While appealing to the governor to dilute his economic treatise with realistic interventions that will create jobs for Edo people, we solicit the pro-development partnership between Esan political leaders and Edo State governor in order to evolve a workable and sustainable development of the senatorial district.”
