President Hersron Byilingiro made the statement while receiving the Governor in his office in Kigali.

Dr Okezie Ikpeazu who was in Kigali on the invitation of President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to attend the 2018 Transform Africa Summit, took time off to pay a courtesy visit to the Church leadership in the East African country.

Giving a brief background of the work of the church which has been there for about 100 years with over 1 million members, President Hersron Byilingiro stated that the church is in good standing in the country and has contributed immensely to both the spiritual and temporal growth of Rwanda. He informed the governor that the church runs one of the best tertiary institutions in the country and due to the quality of their education, the President of Rwanda has invited them to establish a medical school in Kigali.

He further informed that due to the heroic acts of some members of the church during the dark days of the genocide, the church has continued to enjoy the respect of government and people of Rwanda.

Responding, Governor Ikpeazu stated that as the first Adventist to be elected to such a political height in Nigeria, he sees his role as mostly that of an ambassador of the Church and Christ just like the President had said.  He further said that the church is also very strong in Nigeria and has also contributed immensely in many sectors of the country like health, education, social welfare etc, sectors which he is also boosting as governor.

The Adventist President later took Governor Ikpeazu round some of the Church’s medical and educational facilities in Rwanda.
