As part of its responsibility to assist the Police in areas that would enhance efficiency, the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC yesterday, commissioned a multipurpose storey building at the Area’ F’ command, Ikeja , Lagos with three others undergoing construction at police divisions under the command.
In his welcome address, the Chairman, PCRC, Area ‘F’ command, Prof Johnson Olatunde, explained that the committee as a Non Government Organisation ,NGO was established to foster relationship between the police and the society as well as help the Police enforce law in the society by providing authentic information aimed at ensuring a secured society .
He stated that the committee decided to throw its weight behind the Police in terms of constructing blocks of offices, since it was obvious that government was saddled with several needs .
He said: “ We are informants and report what is happening in our areas to the Police. Apart from giving the Police information, we are to throw our weight behind the Nigeria Police in terms of building structures, since it is glaring that the Nigeria Police has enormous project and government can’t do it alone. We assist them (Police) to repair their vehicles and even fuel them when necessary.
“At the moment, construction of multipurpose buildings are ongoing at Makinde and Ojodu Police divisions , we are also commencing another one at Alausa police division. The one being commissioned today has more than five offices upstairs that will serve the Area Commander and other senior police officers, with a multipurpose hall downstairs. Funds are sourced within us and from companies around. This is the only way Police can be supported, if we expect them to perform better.”
In his remark the Area Commander ‘F’, Ibrahim Zuguna, appreciated the effort of members of the PCRC , describing their dedication and commitment to work as a sacrifice for a better Police and Nigeria.
Also, five members of the committee were given awards of excellence for service . However, two out of the beneficiaries were given post houmous award.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, General Overseer , Goodnews Miracle Bible church, Archbishop George Amu, who stated that the foundation of the commissioned building was laid during his tenure as chairman, admonished Nigerians to always put in their best whenever they were given the opportunity to work, reminding that posterity would judge everyone’s act.
He also frowned at the call for state Police, stating rather, that PCRC should be expanded to meet the desired goals of a better Police that would meet the expectations of the public.
