Nollywood actress, Ego Nworji has recounted the challenges she faced while striving to actualize her dream of becoming a superstar.
In a chat with HVP, the Asaba-based actress recalled how her husband initially refused to allow her go into acting on the ground that actresses are promiscuous. But how he was proved wrong after he escorted the actress to a movie location as he discovered that “actors are not only serious minded people but true thespians. “Since then, he allowed me to follow my dream,”she enthused.
Sharing her experience with HVP, Ego who is one of the hottest actresses making waves in the Asaba movie scene, said she joined the industry in 2009, but it was a battle trying to convince her husband to allow her follow her passion.
“My husband used to see every woman in Nollywood as a wayward person. But he was proved wrong the day he followed me to a movie location. There and then, he discovered that actresses are serious minded professionals. That was how he allowed me to follow my dream,”she added.
Ego, who has starred in films such as “Blood is Money”, where she played the role of a priestess, “Investigation”, “Juju”, “Wrath of a Virgin” and “The Next Governor” recalled that, while she was struggling to find her feet in the industry, she was frustrated by some producers who wouldn’t pay her after completing her job. “Sometimes, they would call you for a job and after negotiating with them and at the end of the day, they won’t pay you at all or sometimes, they would pay you less than what you bargained with them. It’s really painful,” she added.
Ego said her dream is to become a superstar as well as a force to reckon with in the industry. To her credit, she has featured in many notable movies alongside top Nollywood stars.
