Suspected herdsmen have killed a farmer on his farmland at Afon, in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun state. This incident occured on Thursday barely few hours after the Ogun State Government took proactive measures to prevent clashes between herdsmen and farmers ,to ensure safety of lives and property.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that trouble began when the farmer identified as Adetona Owolabi who was working on his farmland located few metres away to the newly constructed bridge at Afon, along Owode/Abeokuta road which has cassava, yam and vegetables was attacked by the herdsmen for daring to accost them for allowing their cattle to graze on the farmland and destroyed all the farm produce.
The victim, who was in his mid-60s, it was learnt, was inflicted with varying degrees of machete cuts all over his body until he gave up the ghost.
Immediately the perpetrators carried out the dastardly act, it was said, they disappeared into thin air. The victim who was writhing in pain subsequently passed on before he could be rushed to a nearby hospital.
An informed family source hinted that the slain farmer had been interred on that same Thursday, in Afon, according to Muslim rites. It would be recalled that the state government had on Thursday convened the meeting in response to imminent attack.
