Lagos—Magistrate Martins Owunmi of an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, yesterday, ordered the remand of a 54-year-old man, Gbenga Ibuoye, in prison custody over alleged attempt to kidnap a family.

The accused, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and attempt to commit kidnapping.

The prosecutor, Inspector Steven Molo, told the court that the accused, and others still at large, committed the offences sometime in February in Victoria Garden City in Ajah area of Lagos State.

Molo said the accused unlawfully enlisted other persons to kidnap one Mr. Taiwo Adenike, his wife and children.

He said the offences contravened Sections 3, 4 and 7 (1) of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Lagos State, 2017.

The plea of the defendant was not taken.

In his ruling, the Magistrate Owunmi remanded the accused in prison and asked that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of the Director for Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.

The case was adjourned until January 18.
