TWO former governors of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Ndongesit Nkanga, (retd), and Obong Victor Attah, may slug it out for the vacant position of National Chairman of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, zoned to the state, contrary to the notion that the coast was clear for Attah, co-chairman the Central Working Committee, CWC.
A member of PANDEF, who spoke to Vanguard, yesterday, said:”No member of the Zoning Committee is barred from contesting for the National Executive Committee, NEC, positions zoned to their respective states. It is only members of the Electoral Committee that are barred from contesting.
“The fact that Air Commodore Nkanga is the chairman of the zoning committee does not preclude him from contesting the chairmanship position or any other position zoned to his state. No other person in the state is precluded and we are still expecting the guidelines from the Electoral Committee.”
The source said that Nkanga had in the past presided over the meetings of PANDEF as interim chairman, adding, “Those interested in the positions will indicate interest in the next few weeks and it is after then that we will know the aspirants.”
Members of the zoning committee are Air Cdre. Nkanga (retd), Dr. Emmanuel Akpanobong- Akwa Ibom, Chief T K O Okorotie, Mrs. Mary Ebikake, Bayelsa; Mrs. Nella Ande-Rabana; Col Tony Nyiam (retd), Cross River; Chief Olivia Agbajoh, Morris Idiowa, Delta; Prof B B Fakae, HRM Anabs Sara Igbe, Rivers; Comrade Andrew Oyegue and David Reje, Edo.
