Protesters March against SARS in PH


PORT HARCOURT – Hundreds of protesters stormed the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Port Harcourt demanding the redeployment of the Commander of Special Anti Robbery squad,  SARS,  in the state, Mr Akin Fakorede.

The protesters alleged that the security body under his watch had become lawless and allegedly involved in criminal activities. The protesters had placards with various inscriptions with some reading “SARS stop killing innocent Rivers people”, “Every police personnel must wear name tag,” Commander SARS Akin Fakorede has proved himself to be an enemy of the state “.

Comrade Chinansa Omachi and Okocha Njobuanwu who addressed media men said the Inspector General of Police should investigate myriads of allegations against the security body, adding that the Commander, Mr Fakorede should be redeployed since he had allegedly failed to check the excesses of the body.

“We are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the activities of SARS. The Commander, Mr Fakorede who has refused to investigate allegations against the body be removed”, they said.
