ABEOKUTA—No fewer than 70 suspected kidnappers, robbers, murderers and cultists have been arrested by men of Ogun State Police within one month.

Parading the suspects yesterday in Abeokuta, Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illiyasu, said the suspects were arrested after a special operation, Operation Criminal Mop Up.

They were arrested for offences ranging from robbery, kidnapping, impersonation and cultism to ritual killing, among others.

The CP said the suspects were apprehended from different areas of the state, saying some of them were caught in the act while some were arrested through technical intelligence gathering.

Among those paraded was a 31-year-old member of a robbery gang, Ganiyu, who was a member of the gang that shot the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Division on September 13.

The Commissioner said the gang, led by one Mungo Park, shot the DPO several times at Ogbere and carted away his AK rifle.
