Kidnap

Nsukka—As the ember months’ herald the celebration of Christmas, kidnappers in Nsukka have risen at different parts of the zone in attempt to abduct unsuspecting victims for ransom.
At Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, a five-man gang of kidnappers operating in a Volkswagen car with number plate KWL 12 AM invaded the house of a Shell oil company retiree and bundled him into their waiting vehicle and sped off to an unknown destination.

The victim identified as Romanus Eze, who hails from Imilike-Ani in Udenu Local Government Area was said to be getting ready to travel to Enugu when the kidnappers whisked him away in the presence of his wife.
A dependable source told Vanguard that the victim was blindfolded with hands and legs tied after severe beating.
According to the source, immediately after the incident, Divisional Police Officer of Obollo-Afor police station received a distress call and swung into action, chased the kidnappers with his men and vigilante groups in the area.
At the end of the day, two of the suspects were arrested after their operational vehicles crashed into a tree while escaping.
In similar development, Area Command of Nigeria Police, Nsukka Local Government Area has rescued another kidnap victim, who was abducted along Edem/Nrobo road, Adani/Nsukka highway, while returning from Adani in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The victim, Mr John Nwali, who hails from Abakiliki town in Ebonyi State, while speaking with Vanguard, said he was returning from Adani in the company of one Simon Nwiboji and his wife, Ozioma Nwiboji, in his Mercedes Benz car.
“Two men jumped out from the bush with AK-47 rifle, blocked the road and shattered one of my back tyres and ordered me to lie face-down. In less than 10 seconds, the gunmen dragged me to a bush path where I was tied to a tree until the police traced and rescued me.”
