A cross-section of widows
By Gabriel Ewepu
ABUJA- YOUTHS under the auspices of Niger Delta Youth Brotherhood Initiative, NDYBI, has commended one of the commissioners in the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, Evangelist Light Diden, for her monumental impact on widows and less privileged in the Delta State.

A cross-section of widows
This was the assertion of the national coordinator, NDYBI, Comrade Austin Emavworho, while speaking on the commitment of Diden towards the ‘forgotten’ and ‘have nots’ in Delta State.
According to Austin, following various empowerment programmes she (Diden) through her non-governmental organisation, The Woman of Good Heart Initiative, has made to assist government to ameliorate the plight of this category of people in the state, who are now employers of labour.
He said: “Government of Delta State lead by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has been impactful for more than two years now to take Deltans to the next level with his developmental policies and programmes across the three senatorial districts of the State.
“But the government cannot do all by itself to alleviate the challenges people have in the state. Based on the passion and concern demonstrated and sustained by Evangelist Light Oritseweyimi Diden, through her nongovernmental organization and ministry, The Woman of Good Heart Initiative, she has intervened and transformed lives of widows, orphans, physically challenged, the sick, depressed and people into various vices.
“We in Niger Delta Youth Brotherhood Initiative, NDYBI, commend her sacrifice and sense of great passion to impact lives, which she has been a channel of help and support to people who have lost hope in their situation and has been rescuing many out of distressful and terrifying situations spiritually, physically, materially, and psychologically.
“She has given scholarships to the orphans, empowered widows, single parents, transformed the lives of prostitutes to responsible persons in the society with skill acquisition and start-up capitals, given walking aid (wheel chairs, clutches, rolling skates and others) to cripples, spine chord injured persons, stroke patients and polio victims. Others are those who could not pay hospital bills, she has assisted them to go for major surgery problems.
“She has been supplying food and other materials to the aged and those who have been hit by natural disasters, and she has sponsored many on various industrial and skill acquisition programmes. In fact, the way God is using Evangelist Light is beyond description.”
According to him in recognition to her immense contribution in revitalising the lives of thousands of Deltans and non-Deltans, the governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, through confidence reposed in her selflessness activities for the people’s welfare coupled with high integrity demonstrated appointed her commissioner into the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission.
Also an international organization, World Habitat Ambassadors Foundation, WHAF, has concluded plans to confer on her the Humanitarian & Philanthropic Award for Excellence 2017, which the Principal Consultant, WHAF, Ambassador Hillary Emoh, said its essence is to honour and celebrate effort by outstanding individuals and organisations that have contributed to the growth and development of the society.
