Defining what hate speech means, a legal practitioner and public affairs analyst, Mr. Fred Nzeakor, Tuesday said that hate speech is any disparaging statement whether true or false aimed at bringing someone or a group of persons down.

On her part, Ms Ada Agina, the Executive Director, Gender and Development disagreed with him saying that hate speech deals mainly on the intention. Citing an example, Ms Ada said that “we cannot weigh in the scale of the quit notice issued to the Igbo by northern youths and where Nnamdi Kanu called Nigerians animals and Nigeria a zoo.
