The defendant is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendant conspired with others who are still at large, to commit the alleged offences on September 11, at about 2:45p.m., in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

He said the defendant stole a Cherokee Jeep with number plates AAA 04 ET, valued at N6 million, belonging to the complainant, Mr. Abimbola Jelili, under the guise of buying the said car.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty, while his lawyer, Ngozi Ibe, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

The magistrate, Mr. B. A. Sonuga, granted him N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.
