Bauchi—THE Presidential Commitee on Special Food Intervention Programme for the North-East has distributed 20,000 metric tonnes of assorted food items to 54,000 internally-displaced persons, IDP, in Bauchi State.
The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, who led a delegation of members of the committee on a courtesy visit to Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State, said the gesture was an initiative of the Federal Government to alleviate the plights of IDPs in states ravaged by insurgency.
She said the IDPs were identified from 9,000 households in the state, adding that the gesture will be carried out on quarterly basis.
In his response, Governor Abubakar who commended the Federal Government’s initiative, said the state had no IDP camps because of the hospitable gesture of the people, who accommodate IDPs.
He commended the Federal Government’s initiative, saying it had assisted the state government in giving succour to IDPs residing in the state.
Governor Abubakar observed that to forestall possible re-occurrence of insurgency in the North-East, the problem of illiteracy and poverty must be addressed.
