Lagos auto crash claims one, injures many

An early morning auto crash involving a commercial bus and a truck at Odo-Iya Alaro New Garage, Ojota, Lagos, yesterday, reportedly claimed one life, while several others sustained injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the white coaster bus, with number plates EPW 441 XX, lost control and rammed into the broken down trailer with number plates, GGE 31 XN from the rear.

It was gathered from the eyewitnesses that the drivers of the vehicles reportedly absconded immediately the accident occurred.

A senior emergency responder told Vanguard the number was overwhelming.

Road users in the axis were stranded for hours as the incident caused traffic gridlock that lasted for hours, but officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and other stakeholders were on ground to ease the traffic before the accidented vehicles were towed away.

Confirming the incident, LASEMA General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, said the agency received a distress call via the toll free line.

Though he could not confirm the number of those injured, he said preliminary investiga-tions revealed that the incident was caused by reckless driving.
