ASABA—DELTA State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged socio-cultural political pressure groups in the state to support his administration to deliver the dividends of democracy to all Deltans.

Okowa, who spoke at the thanksgiving service of Urhobo People Integrity Organisation, UPIO, held at Anointed Word Bible Ministry, Warri, said that the various support groups,  including UPIO, worked for his victory in the 2015 election.

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, lamented that his administration was facing huge financial challenges occassioned by the economic recession.

He said that his administration was paying workers’ salaries regularly and also embarking on projects such as roads in urban and rural communities, the economic challenges notwithstanding.

Earlier in his address,  President of UPIO, Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, said that the group was committed to the well being of Urhobo people, urging the people to come out enmass to participate in the forthcoming voters registration exercise.

Okorodudu said that the group was in the process of addressing the issue of oil production quantum in Urhobo nation, adding that they had written to government on the need to teach Urhobo language in schools in the Urhobo speaking areas to guide against the language going extinction.
