Zamfara State Government says it will review its policy on security as part of measures to address security challenges in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, disclosure this in Gusau on Thursday at the presentation of relief materials to victims of windstorm disaster.
Shinkafi, represented by the Permanent Secretary in his office, Alhaji Yakubu Haidara, said addressing security challenges was one of the priorities of the state government.
He said the stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders would be involved in the new policy, considering their role in addressing such challenges.
“Traditional and religious leaders have important role to play in improving security situation in the country; the new policy will ensure that they are involved,’’ he said.
He said the general public would also be sensitized on security and disaster management and urged the public to be proactive in handling disaster to reduce its occurrences.
“As we all know, the issue of security is everybody’s business that requires joint work. Therefore, we should give maximum cooperation to government to achieve the desired goal.’’
The representative of NEMA, Mr Ahmad Sani, said the relief materials were donated by the Federal Government to assist the victims.
Sani said NEMA would provide measures to reduce occurrence of disasters in parts of the country.
