•Fish soup
FRESH fish soup is delicious and nutritious. It is very easy to prepare. This type of stew is not fried like stew for rice but is of a more watery consistency than meat/chicken soup. That is why the Yoruba people called it omi obe eja. Fresh fish stew is a special delicacy in ceremonies that everyone look forward to have a taste.

•Fish soup
Ingredients
1 medium size fresh fish of your choice (Tilapia, Obokun, Catfish etc)
2 large red bell peppers
4 scotch bonnet peppers/ habanero
6 tomatoes
1 medium onion
2 cloves garlic -(Not compulsory)
Ginger (size of garlic cloves)- (Not compulsory)
4 cooking spoon palm oil
2 Seasoning cubes
Salt to taste
RECIPE
Step1
Rinse, remove the scales and clean fish in water. Once thoroughly cleaned of any fish gunk, drain and sprinkle mixture of salt, curry, thyme and cube seasoning over fish. Make sure you work the seasoning into fish. Set the fish aside for 30 mins.
Step 2
Blend the bell peppers, onion, tomatoes, scotch bonnet peppers, garlic and ginger along with one cup water. Blend thoroughly till liquefied.
Step 3
Heat oils in pot for like two minutes but don’t let it smoke. Add chopped onion and fry for one minute and add blended mix carefully. Leave to fry for 10-15 minutes till the sour taste of the tomatoes in the mix is no longer there. Add two cups of water and cover for 20 minutes.
Step 4
Add fish and cook for another 10-15 minutes till fish starts to flake. Taste for salt to know if you need to add little salt because the fish has been seasoned earlier..
Reduce the heat and cook for another fivemins and turn off heat.
Fresh fish normally bring out water as you cook, so be careful of adding too much water. At the same time, it must not be thick.
Fish soup goes along with solid food with ewedu, vegetable and okro. It can also be enjoyed without Ewedu and Okro if you don’t like drawing soup.
This is Obe Eja Tutu in Yoruba land and not the stew for rice. Try this and see the difference
Enjoy your meal.
