BENIN CITY—THE Edo State Commissioner on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr Saturday Uwuilekhue, has condemned what he described as unfair and unreasonable demands being made by some host communities on NDDC contractors before projects are executed in their communities.

He attributed some abandoned NDDC projects to the fault of the host communities which make demands on contractors rather than encourage them to execute the projects in their domain timely.

The Edo NDDC boss who lamented the development when he met with contractors and stakeholders in the oil producing communities of the state, said: “Every stakeholder, including contractors, consultants and host communities of NDDC projects must collaborate at ensuring timely execution of projects.”

“Some of the projects that were not progressing as fast as they should are stalled by activities of communities, which make unfair demands on the commission either in form of unnecessary compensation or in requesting for the execution of some aspects of the contract that are obviously beyond their capabilities.”
