THE Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Delta State, Chiedu Ebie, has commended Zenith Bank for reviving the Principal’s Cup Football Competition in the state.
He said the sponsorship deal was coming at the right time when Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the executive arm of his administration to work hard on youth development and empowerment. We as a ministry wish to say thank you to the bank, we couldn’t have pray for a better partner,” he said.
“They are a big brand not just in Nigeria, but on the continent and around the world. We are indeed grateful to all the management of Zenith Bank for finding this tournament worthy.
“The partnership has assured all that the tournament has come to stay and will not just die a natural death after this first edition.
“Principal’s Cup has a rich history, we decided to see how we can revive it, and it has discovered some of the best footballer the country ever produced. A very keenly contested tournament in those days.”
He added further they have put machinery in place to have a tournament devoid of scandals and any discrepancy on the part of participating teams.
According to the schedule, the zonal qualifiers will start from the beginning of May leading to the final coming up on May 27 to coincide with the children’s day celebration.
The commissioner also said the winner of the competition would represent Delta State at the next edition of the Shell Cup competition.
