Ibadan—AS the activities marking the first coronation anniversary of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji continued yesterday, the monarch was awarded the UN Ambassador of Nigeria Goes Green.

The award which was to appreciate part of his commitment towards adding beauty to the environment was given by a member of the National Assembly, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

The epoch-making event which held at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan was well-attended by notable sons and daughters of the ancient city.

While presenting a lecture entitled, Sustainable Development of Ibadan: Past, Present and Future, the guest lecturer, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan advised that government should embark on the preparation of a master plan for Ibadan metropolis adding that poorly functioning land markets make investing in housing and infrastructure expensive and inefficient.

“Given Ibadan’s high exposure to flood disaster, investment in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation will be an essential part of inclusive and sustainable growth strategies.

”It has therefore become imperative to redevelop and modernise the decaying old core areas of the metropolis to make it more productive for business services”, he said.
