The Bauchi state government today flagged off distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons in the state. The event which which had Governor Abubakar present, saw relief materials donated by the Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative (PCNI) given to IDPs.

The Chairman of the PCNI represented by Mohammed Gambo Umar disclosed that a zonal PCNI office will soon be opened in the state. He thanked the state for accommodating IDPs. In his words, “we are here to flag off distribution of relief and food items, it is my hope that soon, we will be back to flag off food grown by the IDPs for the mass market”.

Responding, Gov. Abubakar thanked Mr President for setting up such a critical committee. He also thanked the PCNI and the Nigerian Military for the role they played in ameliorating the sufferings of the IDPs caused by the insurgency. Gov. Abubakar promised that all relief and food materials will be given to only IDPs. He warned against any attempt to divert food meant for beneficiaries to the open markets.

The representatives of the IDPs thanked the government for the kind gesture towards them in their time of need. Items distributed include; Rice, maize, millet, beans, noodles, vegetable oil and palm oil.
