Yola—THE Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Federal Polytechnic, Mubi chapter, has said it is loyal to the national body, but gave reasons why it did not join the recent industrial action called by its national leadership.
Chairman of the branch, Mr. Martins Bunu, told reporters in Yola, yesterday, that the union was not in any way at loggerhead with its national body over the action.
He explained that a court barred the local branch of ASUP from embarking on any industrial action as instituted by a former chairman of the union.
According to him, “an Industrial Court Order has restrained the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Mubi chapter, from involvement in industrial action, pending the determination of the suit before it.
“The union has no alternative than to boycott the one week nationwide warning strike embarked upon by its members in the country.
“We want to use this medium to appeal to law enforcement agencies that the impeached former Chairman, Kabiru Mohammed, should be stopped from parading himself as the chapter chairman.”
We want to make it clear, that any breach of peace or derogatory statements concerning the union activities or inciting members from Kabir Mohammed, within federal Polytechnic, Mubi, will not be condoned. Mr. Kabiru Mohammed, should be held responsible if an unrest arises from Union activities in Federal Polytechnic Mubi Chapter”.
Bunu ,however said, the order restraining the impeached former Chairman and any other members of the Union, from engaging in any industrial action pending the determination of the suit which up till date the order has not been vacated and still subsisting.
He maintained that the members of Union Mubi chapter remained loyal and in total solidarity with the recently declared warning strike.
