UMUAHIA—THE General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Enugu, Major General Adamu Baba Abubakar has charged officers and soldiers under his division to always be neutral whenever they are posted to maintain peace in crisis areas.

Major General Abubakar also admonished them to always be ready to justify their actions and inactions.

A press statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, said the GOC spoke while addressing officers and soldiers of the 72 Special Forces Battalion and the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering Makurdi, Benue State, where he rounded up his tour of the formations and units under his division.

Abubakar also sensitized them on their constitutional duties and the peculiar responsibility of maintaining law and order in Benue and other crisis-ridden states.

“Let me remind you of the precarious security situations in your area of responsibility; these are issues of communal, ethnic and farmers/herdsmen clashes as well as the Agatu crisis.

“In all these security challenges, you must be more vigilant, proactive and disciplined.
“Wherever you are drafted either for peace enforcement or peace keeping, the basic principles of Internal Security Operations apply, and you must strictly adhere to them or risk going to jail.”
