MALABAR – A baby boy of about four months old has been found dead in a gutter at Beebobsco bus stop along Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar.

Vanguard learned that baby who was found dead in a polythene bag was allegedly dropped in the early of Tuesday.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Vanguard they said they saw the baby as they resumed work today because the baby was not there at the close of work yesterday.

An eyewitness, Eme Douglas who sells cement close to the scene of the incident said she saw the baby when she resumed work in the morning while sweeping the premises.

“I saw the lifeless body of the baby boy this morning while sweeping our premises, although I did not see when the baby was dropped but I am certain it was in the early of today, I don’t even know who to e contact, some security agents have been here but none of them picked the baby”

When Vanguard visited the scene of the incident, a large crowd of passers by had thronged the place raining abuses on whoever committed such a barbaric act.
When contacted, Barr James Ibor, a Principal Counsel, Basic Rights counsel Initiative a child right Organization in the state vowed to make sure the police investigate the matter and bring the culprit to book.

His words: “It is really sad and quite unfortunate that despite the volume of applications by different people at the ministry of Sustainable Development and Social Welfare for adoption of children that somebody could have the gods to commit such sacrilege”

“We will make sure make sure that the police carry out full investigation into the matter and bring the culprit to book, we will not rest until that child gets justice” Ibor vowed.

When contacted, the Commissioner for Sustainable Development and Social Welfare, Mr. Oliver Orok directed our reporter to call Calabar Urban Development Agency (CUDA) to evacuate the corpse but efforts to reach the Executive Secretary of CUDA,Mr Joe-Marie proved abortive.
