An Indian national, Mr Somen Debnath, is presently in Nigeria on ‘Around the World Bicycle Tour’ programme to raise global awareness on the effects of HIV/AIDS, through the education of young men and women worldwide. Somen, who arrived Lagos on bicycle after visiting 110 other countries in the last 11 years through same means, told Saturday Vanguard that the whole essence of the bicycle tour, which he said started at his hometown in Sundarbans, India, in May 2004, is to enjoin in ensuring that people living with the virus are not stigmatisied and or discriminated.

A clergyman, Bishop David Bakare, has advised the Federal Government to reserve 10 per cent of the proceeds from the arms deal for the welfare of the families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes and ex-servicemen. A 27-year-old student, Luis Charles, on Monday appeared in a Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, for allegedly stealing a wallet. The accused, who resides at Tudun Wada, Mararaba, was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft. Prosecutor Friday Adaji said the matter was reported at the `A’ Divisional Police Station by one Itoro Abraham of New Nyanya, Nasarawa State, on Jan. 10.

An engineer, Gibson Onyeka charged with causing the death of 40 fowls, valued at N144,000 was on Monday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. Onyeka, 34, residing at No. 1, Babatunde Hassan St., Ishaga , Lagos, is being tried for causing damage and killing of animals. According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Raji, the accused caused the death of the fowls, owned by one Olarenwaju Oladuja, sometime in October 2015 at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.
