Wayne Rooney was recalled for Manchester United’s Premier League visit to Crystal Palace on Wednesday as the striker chased Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.
Rooney needs one more goal to equal Bobby Charlton’s United record of 249 goals and the England star’s return at Selhurst Park gives him another chance to make history.
After moving on to 248 goals when he netted against Feyenoord in the Europa League recently, Rooney, who has only three goals in all competitions this term, has failed to score in his last three appearances.
United captain Rooney was making his first Premier League start since November 6 as boss Jose Mourinho made four changes to the side that beat Tottenham on Sunday.

Eric Bailly, Juan Mata and Daley Blind also came in for United.
