ASABA- ELDERS, leaders and stakeholders of the coastal states of Niger Delta under the auspices of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, are assembling tomorrow (Friday) in Asaba, capital of Delta State for a meeting.
A statement by PANDEF, issued by a member of the Central Working Committee, CWC, Dr. Alfred Mulade, said the meeting summoned by the leader, former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark: “is to discuss the gains made so far and the way forward towards the actualization of permanent peace in the Niger Delta region.”
The governor of Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who has shown concern about the present state of affairs in the region, is expected to play host to the leaders from all parts of the region.
Before now, some rights groups in the region, especially the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, led by Mr. Austin Ozobo, had condemned the holding of PANDEF’s meetings at Abuja, saying it should hold in any of the Niger Delta states, but not the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
