UGHELLI—Delta State’s representative on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo, weekend, said that the commission was saddled with over N450 billion debt and was embarking on an average of 8,600 projects across the Niger Delta states.
Ifowodo spoke at Ughelli, Delta State, during the 9th edition of the Chief Demas Akpore annual memorial lecture organised by the Ejiro and Otive Igbuzor foundation.
He warned contractors who have been awarded contracts, mobilised by the commission and had abandoned such jobs to mobilise immediately to site or be ready to repay the money they collected.
Ifowodo said: “All those who have collected money and have abandoned their contracts constitute the problems we have in the Niger Delta. The commission is embarking on an average of 8,600 contracts spread across the Niger Delta and is also saddled with about N450 billion debts. We intend to bring some form of sanity to the commission.”
