The Lagos Street Party has not only triggered a new spirit of modern Lagos, it has occupied a prime place in the state’s calendar as far as entertainment and tourism are concerned.
Across the metropolis and its suburbs, Lagosians from the East to the West, trooped to the Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island venue of the carnival where they were thrilled to all genres of music and other forms of entertainment.
Thanks to White Star Entertainment, the initiator of the programme which was meant to showcase the rebirth of new Lago and usher in the Yuletide.
Artistes like Olamide, Phyno, MI Abaga, Kaffy, Atawewe and Ice Prince with some DJs like Humblesmith DJ Spinall, DJ Lambo among others ensured revelers had fun filled time.
The first day featured colourful cultural parades, acrobatic displays and live performances, which according to Ayorinde were a display of Lagos rich culture. On day-2 of the event, artiste like 9ice, Dammy Krane, Fatai Valentine (FUJI), Sunkanmi and few others stirred up the audience at the street party, while on Sunday, Olamide, Phyno, MI, Idris Abdulkareem and Sule Adio, thrilled the crowd on two different stages at both ends of Ahmadu Bello way separately.
The event was also laced with a lot of side attraction and exhibition, which the Founder of White Star, Mr. Akin Akinyelure said, was primarily designed “to bring dynamism to the event and give people the platform and corporate bodies to exhibit their potentials and market their products.”
The state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the Attorney-General, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, the acting Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Olarenwaju Elegushi and his tourism counterpart, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola among others dignitaries were not missing in the fun packed event.
Obviously, it was not all about wining and dining. It was equally about commerce and creativity, which Ayorinde said, helped project the potentials of the state to use tourism, arts and entertainment to attract investors.
So, the carnival indeed stimulated consumption of various items ranging from drinks, food, household items, clothing and marketing activation by various service providers.
For Ayorinde, the carnival offered real entertainment, live music, diverse cuisine and creative indigenous games in a beautiful environment, which gave people of different nature diverse choice. It indeed showcased and celebrated the renaissance of Lagos, Africa’s mode megacity and first largest economy.
Akinsola, Special Adviser on Arts & Culture, said the street party was a dream fulfilled for Ambode’s agenda to transform the tourism sector. She said the Ambode administration had come up with THESE, an acronym, which translates to (Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment, Sports for Excellence).
Akinsola added that tourism related events like the street carnival and One Lagos Fiesta, an eight-day programme structured “to count down to the New Year.
