A young male Christian convert has been declared wanted by a group of Muslim jihadists in Lagos.

Akeem Oluwaseun Ejiko, 43, a diehard Muslim, was said to have renounced Islam and became a Christian born again recently, vowing not ever practice Islam again in life. The action, which was said to have seriously provoked the Muslim community in Obadore, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, was said to have made them try to convince him to retract his decision but to no avail.

A voice in the course of the 5.30-6 am Muslim prayers on Tuesday morning had pronounced him wanted, declaring him an infidel, who must be gotten and taken out of the area with his family members. But contacted later that day on the pronouncement and the reason behind it, a leading member of the Mosque, who craved anonymity, dissociated the Mosque from it, stating that it was not a part of it and knew nothing about it.

Although he did not deny the fact that there was such a pronouncement earlier that day in the Mosque, but he insisted that the Mosque knew nothing about it and was officially not part of the pronouncement.
According to him, “we knew nothing about it as a body, and made no such declaration officially, I have this feeling that Akeem has problems with some people and they are after him, if that’s not the case, then, it’s by some religious bigots, who are unaware that religion is a personal affair of a spiritual norm that dictates that you take to a religion of your interest and care, I say again that our Mosque should be counted out of this, if anything happens to him, we are not part of it, it’s by people after him for reasons best known to them, I’m more than sure of this”

Akeem’s whereabouts and those of his family members have remained unknown, but a man around his house, who gave his name as Doyin Olatunde, doubted if Akeem and his family members were still around to be readily seen.

“I saw him last on Saturday, though he is quiet and easy-going, being not the outgoing type, it’s possible that he is still around but doubts it because I didn’t see any member of his family come out as well for anything but he didn’t look like one who was aware of this move by the Muslims, he was a good Muslim and had joined the Redeemed Church only recently on his own, I guess he prefers that now, although before then I was seeing his wife going to Church with one or two of the little children, the man was not bothered about it until he changed his mind a fortnight ago, denounced Islam and became a born again Christian.

“Whether it’s true for that reason or not, the Muslims have gone after him now, with the situation now surrounding him, the best thing, if he can, is to just go out of this country, anything short of that, he could be killed by those blood tasty lunatics, who say they are Muslims and would not allow anyone to take to another faith. Even with the police around, they will just kill him and his family and go without a trace. That’s why you see his wife’s family looking for how to take their daughter and the children away from him and leave him to face his ordeal alone. But God forbid, by God’s will, he will survive and come off it safely but he needs to go somewhere out of this country if he knows what is good for him,” Olatunde advised.

Married to 37-year old Olubukola Ajoke Ejiko, the couple has four sons- Omolade, 12 years of age, Ayotunde, 11, Ayokunle, 9, and the last born, Ayomikun, just a six-month-old baby.
