Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have been clobbered by their English counterparts 8-1 at the Suwon Four-nation U-19 tournament taking place in South Korea.

The heavy defeat reflected the preparedness of the team which earlier in the year failed to qualify for the African Championship in Madagascar.  The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF had entered the team with the hope of seeing the players mature into the the U-20 squad.

However, the defeat has been blamed on the team’s travelling plans. The Eaglets arrived Korea 24 hours before the match and they had no clothing to match the weather.

Nigerian-born youngsters Dominc Solanke, Ademola Lookman, Ovie Ejaria, Fikayo Tomori and Josh Onomah played for England. Solanke opened the flood gates of goals in the 25th minute and Adam Armstrong had a hat-trick for the English.

Next up for the Eaglets is Iran today and they later clash with host Korea Republic on Saturday.

England are using the tournament to prepare for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Korea in the summer.

Hosts South Korea defeated Iran 3-1 in the opening match of the invitational tournament.
