Protesters at the SPDC facility

THE Jumbo Major House of Bonny in Rivers State, has mandated a caretaker committee led by Professor Jasper Jumbo, to review a suit some of its members instituted against Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, over Bonny Oil Terminal land in order to avert a communal crisis.
At a general meeting of the House attended by representatives of the elders’ council, village heads, women, and youths, the House mandated the caretaker committee to take legal steps in the protection the House.
A communiqué by Jumbo on behalf of the community village head also described as a ruse and exercise the alleged dissolution of the caretaker committee by those it described as ill-intended persons.
The House, however, pledged its loyalty to His Majesty King Edward William Pepple even as it decried some developments under his watch which it said disregarded the independence of the House in Bonny.
The communiqué partly reads:” The Jumbo House rejected the imposition of Asai Jumbo and Abine Jumbo who are not elders of the House to be joined on the Bonny Oil Terminal Land. The meeting described as unethical and unacceptable any suggestion that monies accruing on the House Land be paid into the bank account of their counsel instead of the authentic landlords who will in turn pay their counsel for his services as agreed.”
