ABUJA—THE House of Representatives yesterday called on the Federal Government to carry out an in-depth investigation to determine the immediate and remote causes of the recent tremor in Kaduna State to avert a recurrence.
The House also summoned the Director-General of the National Geological Survey Agency, NGSA, to appear before it to provide a seismic report on the magnitude of the tremor and/or earthquake that recently occurred within Jeba and any other area threatened by such an occurrence.
The House, in a resolution on a motion of urgent importance sponsored by Sunday Marshall Katung who represents ZangonDaura-Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, also told the Federal Ministry of Environment to ascertain the level of destruction and reclaim all damaged areas.
The House, in the motion entitled, “Motion for urgent intervention and investigation of the tremors and earthquake at Jaba local government area of Kaduna State”, urged the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to immediately provide relief materials for distribution to victims of the recent tremor at Jaba.
Katung had in the motion, expressed concern that there was the likelihood that the tremor could recur, if nothing was done to arrest the situation.
