Lagos—Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has directed men of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, LSPWC, to fix the popular Isaac John Street, Government Reserved Area, GRA, Ikeja, among others said to have been abandoned four years ago.
LSPWC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ayotunde Sodeinde, an engineer, said the directive was issued last week.
His words: “Following the directive of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the reconstruction of the terribly bad stretch of Isaac John Street, which is a beehive of business activities, the LSPWC has since moved to site to fix the road.
“The road measuring about 1,650m which links Joel Ogunnaike and Sobo Arobiodu is presently undergoing major scarifying and base preparation work by the LSPWC guys.”
Sodeinde, during the inspection of the road project yesterday, explained that; “The road project was awarded four years ago and His Excellency was not satisfied with the pace of work on site which looked almost abandoned and directed that the LSPWC should immediately fix the road.”
Cooperatives lack investment potential 68 years after – Ambode
Meantime, Governor Ambode has said cooperative societies in the country are yet to strengthen the huge investment potential in the sub-sector after 68 years of existence .
Ambode, who spoke at the merit ward/gala night in commemoration of the 2016 International Cooperative Day held in Lagos, lamented that business potentials available to cooperators in the country was yet to be adequately harnessed for economic benefits.
The governor, in a statement issued yesterday by the State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, said: “I am aware that cooperatives societies have been set up as far back as 1948, which means that overtime we have failed to tap the huge potentials in this sub-sector.”
Ambode, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Food Security, Mr. Okanlawon Sanni, added “One of the major reasons the government established the Cooperative College at Oko-Oba, Agege is to boost interest in Cooperative activities.
