Mararaba – A 19-year-old student, Obed Daniel of Ruggan Auta Mararaba, was on Monday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, over alleged theft of a Blackberry cell phone.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that one Oludare Jones of Aso C, Mararaba, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Mararaba, on April 2.

Adaji said that on the same date, the complainant was charging his Blackberry cell phone valued at N38,000 in his shop at Mararaba, when the accused entered and stole it.

He said that the complainant’s sales boy who saw the accused raised an alarm and the accused was arrested with the cell phone.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, the accused is liable to three years imprisonment with fine, or with both.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He said that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and must present one passport photograph or a National Identity Card.

Maga adjourned the case till April 19, for further hearing.
