New Year oil price crash: Nigerians as victims
The bus conductor now hears it frequently from his passengers. Just like the roadside shoe mender gets it from his patrons. In justifying why they cannot pay as much as usual, these customers complain that international oil price has “crashed”. The implication is that this has adversely affected the easy flow of cash among its citizens as Nigeria no longer earns as it used to from sales of crude oil, its major source of foreign revenue. Though widely foretold, the crash has come to characterise the beginning of the new year. But what was responsible for the crash and how much does it affect the common man on the streets as much as the elite?
Love scams: Your body and your money!
The news of Ope’s scheduled wedding was a much welcomed one. At 31, she’d crossed over the conventional marriage age for young women and gradually hitting the single and searching category. As big aunts, many of us were already curious about her status and never failed to ask about the ‘bobo’ whenever the opportunity provided itself. So, when we got the text message, inviting us to the Introduction ceremony, I was elated. Ope’s day of glory was already a bit overdue, so it called for great thanksgiving and I was sure that her mother, a Lagos socialite by every standards will leave no stones unturned to make the ceremonies as remarkable and memorable as possible.
Married, lonely
Tuesday, January 26, 2016, is Spouses Day, a day set aside to celebrate and honour our spouses. It is a day when we should not only tell our spouses we appreciate them, but prove it. Celebration of our spouses should actually be a daily and continuous activity, but this day is specially meant to draw attention to the need to appreciate our spouses. But how do you celebrate and appreciate your spouse in a marriage where either one or both spouses are lonely? One challenge some married people contend with is loneliness. It comes in many forms. We have grass widowhood.

Who will cry for me when I die?
A lady in a high brow catholic parish died recently. She was only 48. Yet at that relatively young age, she had put herself in different positions of service within the church that almost everybody—the old, the young, the rich, the poor, the cleric and the laity—remembered her. And like Lydia in the Holy Book, almost everybody had good things to say concerning her. As she was in the church, so she was at home and with close friends. She had made herself so relevant in people’s lives that many remembered one kind deed, one kind gesture or the other. Hers was a life that was short but impactful.
Edo 2016: Why it will be difficult to defeat Oshiomhole’s candidate – Hon. Shuaibu
It was a very successful meeting. And this was the first time the governor of a state will be consulting with the people for the purpose of a successor and at the same time, it is in the interest of the party so that all of us will speak with one voice. What he is doing is to help stop this unnecessary expenditure that is incurred by aspirants, where people will sell their houses in the name of elections and by the end of the day, it becomes a do or die affair. So this consultation will help to curb the do or die politics. For the first time in this country, a governor is coming out to organize a talk where the agenda of his administration is discussed and the future of the next administration was the focus.
Political notes
His associates see him as the Governor-Elect of Kogi State. Party officials see him as the Deputy-Governor Elect. James Faleke two-term chairman of Ikeja local government area, two-term member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency must make a choice between now and next Wednesday when the inauguration of the new governor of Kogi State takes place on the hat he must continue to wear.
Lawal presided at his own impeachment as speaker – Osiyi
The motion for his impeachment was moved while he was still on seat and he told the mover of the motion to reel out the names of the signatories to the impeachment notice. Seventeen lawmakers signed up to impeach him and he stands impeached. A new Speaker in my humble self was elected to lead the House. I am the authentic Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
People were bribed to distabilise the House – LAWAL
I do not subscribe to the fact that we have two speakers. The House is under one leadership and I remain the Speaker of the House. The putsch by some members of the House against the leadership of the House was unfortunate and we will soon get over it. We are one big family and will come out stronger. We had been enjoying peace in the House until some external forces infiltrated our ranks.
You can rise above your mistakes
So many people have been frustrated in life, marriages, families, business and careers because of a mistake they made in the past. Thus, they say to themselves that they can never make it in life. They do not see themselves any better than the mistake they have made. The truth of it all is that the mistake is nothing compared to who you really are and can be tomorrow. Though your now may be small yet your latter end shall greatly increase.
