Carpenter in court for punching off woman’s teeth

A carpenter, Benjamin Joseph, yesterday appeared in a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly punching off the teeth of a woman.

Joseph, 23, was arraigned on a four-count charge of criminal trespass, assault, causing grievous hurt and theft.

The prosecutor, Mrs Ndidi Ukaoha, told the court that one Timilade Oluwale of Gosa borehole reported the matter at Iddo Police Station on December 11, 2015.

Ukaoha said that on December 10, Joseph came to the complainant’s medicine shop for treatment on his wounded leg and was charged N1,200, which he refused to pay.

She said: “When Joseph came back to her the next day demanding for drugs, she asked for the money in respect of the previous day’s service before she could listen to him.

She said that Joseph forced his way into the shop and beat her up.

The accused punched the mouth of the complainant and removed one of her teeth.”

She also said that in the process the complainant lost N50,000.

The prosecutor said that action contravened Sections 342, 365, 241, and 287 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Mr. Garba Ogbede, granted him N100,000 bail and a surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till February 2 for hearing.
